Dragon lady

by GENEVIEVE PAIEMENT

Fabienne Lasserre points to "low culture, pop culture generally, and Mexico in particular" as major influences on her art. Her installation "Dragons et dragonnes" consists of paintings, video projections, a mural and some old television sets and mixes up such disparate elements as Pre-Hispanic religions, horror films, Hindu mythology, voodoo, rock 'n' roll and paganism. The beautiful chaos kicks off with a vernissage May 13, 3 p.m. at La Centrale, 460 Ste-Catherine W., #506 and runs until June 17. The launch of Textura, a publication celebrating La Centrale's 25th anniversary happens simultaneously. : <
