Men in pink?

Participants at Montreal's Festival of Anarchy--going on in town until May 6--don't all wear black. Some of them, like a guy directing traffic atop stilts at one of last Monday's Mayday demos, prefer to wear a pink bunny suit.

This event on St-Laurent in the Plateau involved blocking traffic and beating drums to celebrate "resistance to capitalism and oppression in every form." Police broke out the riot gear and forced demonstrators into a park off St-Laurent. But this was a party compared to a brash protest in Westmount which saw over 100 people arrested. Another union-led downtown protest of 1,000 marchers went off without a hitch--except for the rain.

Other ongoing events include the Anarchist Book Fair this Saturday, May 6 at 1710 Beaudry, the same day as the Millennium Marijuana March which leaves Carré St-Louis at 1 p.m. : --Craig Segal
