Cocktail culture
Dahling, every social butterfly worth her weight in hors d'oeuvres knows that cocktail parties are synonymous with performance art. And what of the social scene that fuels the art world? Hotel Motel is a collaborative performance piece which examines this world, exploring "galas, vernissages, the rituals of reception, and the role of spectators."
It is the work of artists Trevor Gould, from Montreal, and Jerry Allen, from Vancouver. Gould is interested in art as "cultural research," while Allen investigates questions related to the nature of space taken up by installations and exhibitions. Hotel Motel premiered at last year's Vancouver festival of performance art Live at the End of the Century. A fine excuse to partake in a little self-conscious quasi-performance at a cinq-a#224;#192;-sept, as you suck back a martini and gaze upon the cityscape. Cocktails will be served (as promised on the flyer) from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday April 28 in the Presidential Suite of the Delta Hotel (475 President-Kennedy), admission is free. :
