On track for A16

>>

Tens of thousands of marchers will take to the streets of Washington D.C. on April 16th, to protest outside a major IMF/World Bank conference. Joining them at this next mega-protest on the civil society agenda--popularly known as "A16"--will be several busloads of Montreal activists.

"We have to protest because these institutions are not building a world that's good for everybody, they're just building a world that's good for the rich," said Phil Ilijevski of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), which is coordinating the activist buses.

"Some of us are going to try and shut down the conference with civil disobedience, like in Seattle," Ilijevski said, "while others will just march peacefully."

But he warned that "one of the main problems is that people might 'fuck shit up' by deliberately provoking violence with the police." He said that civil disobedience workshops "to teach people how to deal with the police and pepper gas" will be held before protesters go down.
