Under pressure
A popsicle-stick bridge buckles beneath the weight of a hydraulic press during Concordia's annual bridge-building competition last Friday. This bridge, built by students from Laval University in Quebec City, weighed eight pounds and managed to hold 430 pounds before giving way. The winning entry, from Vermont Technical College, weighed only three pounds and withstood a load of over 3,000 pounds.
