Women and classics

In honour of International Women's Day, Tangente holds its annual series called Sa Geste, which puts women centrestage in solo performances. This year, local choreographer Lina Malenfant presents Femmes-phares. This work is the first in a trilogy that is a tribute to remarkable women. Also on tap: Jane Mappin presents Les Anges Monstrueux, while New York's Andrea Kleine performs The Photo Morgue, which deals with the themes of eye movement and being observed. Sa Geste runs March 9-11 at 8:30 p.m. and March 12 at 7:30pm, $13-15.
If you're up for something classical, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens is putting on a show of classics by 20th-century greats. There's George Balanchine's Valse Fantaisie, Lilac Garden by Brit Antony Tudor, Jose Limon's The Moor's Pavane, which was inspired by Shakespeare's Othello, and German choreographer Kurt Jooss' celebrated work The Green Table. Les Grands Classiques du 20e siecle takes place at Place des Arts March 9-11 &16-18 at 8pm, matinee on March 18 at 2pm, $20-56. :
