In the dark

Talking with photographer Guylaine Bedard and ambient noisemaker i8u, who perform together this Friday at Noize, is a little eerie. These two talented ladies are "kindred spirits," sure, but it doesn't stop there: when speaking, their words kind of overlap, as does their art. But that's no coincidence. Having worked together before--Bedard did the artwork for i8u's debut self-titled CD--the two feed off each other, "sometimes creating contrasts, other times highlighting a certain feeling," says i8u.

And that certain feeling is usually pretty dark. Says i8u: "We share a fascination for darkness evoked in music in art," which in part accounts for her strangely sensual and chilling music. Alongside her, Bedard will be projecting sparse stills of electrical wires and water tanks in black and white graphic film. Bring your infrared goggles to this intimate affair at Noize (3697 St-Laurent), Fri. March 3, 8 p.m., free. :
