Rock 'n' roll, kid...

by SCOTT C

It all begins with Toronto rap duo Citizen Kane rolling into town to do some promo for their fairly impressive debut album Deliverance. The crew showed up late for an on-air interview at K103 on Friday night, where mix-show host Chuck graciously received them anyway. Getting down to business, Chuck suggested the boys take off their "80-pound bubblegoose coats" and relax. Citizen Kane replied to that comment on air with something about Chuck and the "80-pound dick in his mouth." This of course led to them being asked to leave, fisticuffs, police, the whole nine. No charges have been laid but damn! What a way to promote your record. Attitude will get you everywhere and nowhere.

Backpacker alert! The ever-popular "Off the Hook," heard on CKUT Wednesday nights from 2 a.m.-4 a.m., is now available for the archival purposes of the common scrub. That's right, you can now get one of Mtl's best hip hop radio shows on double CD. It's available through Revolution at Science, or call 284-7434 for details. Also know that the Boxcutter Massive is up for a MIMI award for best hip hop radio show, so don't forget to vote.

Kid Koala's new album, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, one that a lot of you have been waiting for, will be available at Noize this Saturday at 12 p.m. (wicked roight!). The first 30 copies sold will include a free ticket to the album launch February 25 at Lion d'Or. Tickets for the launch are not for sale, so if you plan on being there you'd better step lively. Special guests will be present. $4 at the door. Friday night is also the night that the Jazz Workshop presents the Love Moment at Cabaret. The night features the DJ crew Scientists of Sound spinning world beat rhythms. Tickets are $5 at Noize and $7 at the door. It sounds like a Valentine thing but you'll just have to go to find out.

Lastly, all of you diehard-in-the-corner-mashing-down types who are missing slow-jams with a vengeance might want to check out Cabin Fever at Noize Saturday night, February 13. Music supplied by Mossman, Simon B and myself will be heavily influenced by the art of the get down--if you get my meaning. $2 at the door, or $2 in advance. :
