Noisemakers 2000: Sliq guys

>> Hot software for the interactive broadcast experience

By KRISTA

DJs take heed. Those rumours about the "live DJ" slowly being replaced by a silicon-based one (as in chips, not tits) just might be true. And at the forefront of the stealth takeover is Sanjiv Menezes, founder and big boss of Sliq Media Technologies, a Montreal company that has developed a software that enables an "interactive broadcast experience."

"Basically we've developed a program comprised of online radio and video channels that adapt themselves in real time to whoever's listening," says the 33-year-old Menezes. "Which means that eventually anyone will be able to download music they like and program the listening order themselves. DJs will be able to download entire sets and slap them on a CD and take it with them anywhere."

Menezes has been working in high-speed communications and networking since 1983, and owns a fibre-optics company and Web site devoted to electronic music, (www.sugarrush.com).

Conceptually, Sliq began three and a half years ago, but was incorporated just seven months ago. In that short time Menezes and his expert team have already done work for MTV, Virgin and Microsoft. l
