Noisemakers 2000: Marginal mama
>> Film girl at work Sandra Dammetto
by MARC TUTERS
Sandra Dammetto is the fly girl video-artist and documentarian behind Girl at Work Productions. Her prolific output has ranged in style and content over the years, but she's always kept it stylistically and politically challenging.
As the former "house" videographer for now-defunct House of Pride, Sandra's long been a committed artist in the queer community and outspoken voice from the margins. She's collaborated with Montreal sexologist Dr. Fran Shaver on the subject of prostitution on the streets of Montreal, and her work has circulated through AIDS-related organizations and in festivals across the Americas. You may already have seen Sandra's work on TV (she's been broadcast on MusicPlus, MusiMax, WTN, City TV and Bravo) or this past year at the Image & Nation film fest.
In the plans for this coming year: Cat Pack, a take on Deeno, Frank and Sami with local choreographer/director Joe Hiscott; State of the Union, a cutting-edge "online" documentary on the subject of marriage amongst local Plateau dwellers; and a collaboration with Poetry Slam diva extraordinaire Alexis O'Hara.
With all she has in store for us in 2000, leave it to Miss Dammetto to put the "oh-oh" in the 00s. l
