Knuckles to the chin...

by SCOTT C

First things first, I would like to thank everybody who came down to Blizzarts last Friday night to help celebrate the Brass Knuckles first anniversary. That place was wall to wall with people who only wanted to get down. Many thanks to Wig from Ninja Tune and Dave One, who braved the crowds to drop a few choice tracks over the course of the evening.

If you're one of the many who've been waiting for Kid Koala to drop his solo album, you may be happy to know that the promotion has begun. A series of five stickers drawn by none other than the Kid himself have started circulating around town. Mister Man is nowhere to be found though, as he's touring with Coldcut in Europe right now. His album Carpal Tunnel Syndrome drops February 15 in Canada.

Last week's Swollen Members show was actually well attended and a great show to boot. Although they rocked the set, a lot of the locals didn't hesitate to yell all of their songs at the pretty welcoming audience. But things always get better the next time. I wonder if anyone else noticed openers the Sebutones getting rushed off the stage so that the evening's host, Bless, could do his own thing. Some said it was the Sebutones "vibe" that prompted the gong, but where I come from you don't wave off the dudes that many paid to see in lieu of the master of ceremonies.

Massive!! For the second week in a row, Le Studio is gonna be packed with skills of every kind. Thursday, December 2, is the night that Montreal Massive jumps off featuring talent from one of the city's hardest working hip hop labels, Zoobone Records. Headlining the night is the ever-so-modest Gundei, set to hit the crowd with his deep-voiced, yardie style flows. Of course Mizery and ...At Random won't be far behind, followed by all kinds of stage-ready friends too.

Also look for 01-Etranji, Comatoze, R.D.P.Izeurs, Bad News Brown, Nadege aka Black Cherry and representing Toronto, Diamond X , Al Sham and K.P. The whole thing starts at around 10 p.m.

The results are in and it looks like Canada takes the cake once again! The International Turntablists Federation held their world finals and category battles in Oahu, Hawaii from November 19 to 21, where our own A-Trak--the Hunchback of Outremont--took the title of ITF World Advancement Class Champion. His expert scratching and beat juggling skills were put to the test against U.S. finalist Relm, who found he wasn't in his realm at all after the head to head battle.

Lil' Jaz of Toronto's Turnstylez Crew also received the title of ITF Beat Juggling Champion after a by and a no-show, but hey, he's a downhome boy too. Congratulations to both of them. Just make sure to wash those dirty little fingers before you go winning yet another world title.
