angel Angel >> Garbage insurrections! On Monday, the new garbage bylaw entered into full enforcement. No more warnings, just $100 tickets. In protest, Michel Seguin of the recycling group Action Re-Buts put out little white grocery bags of garbage and defied the city to fine him. Then the TQS news-spoof program La Fin du monde est a sept heures got into the act: they broadcast Mayor Pierre Bourque's home address on L'Assomption, and called on all Montrealers to stop by and leave a grocery bag of their crap on his front step--virtually ensuring he gets a ticket himself.

Insect >> The union-busting management of Place des Arts Faced with a strike by stage technicians that's been dragging on for months, unwilling to bend in negotiations, PdA management did an end-run around the province's labour laws: they decided they would no longer be offering technical services, thus firing everybody in one shot. The productions that come to PdA will now be asked to hire their own stage hands. The union has vowed to fight back; we predict they will soon be named Insect of the Week for spitting at children who cross their picket line to go see The Nutcracker. Work it out, you two.
