angel Angel >> Absent-minded plutonium point-man David CollenetteFederal transport minister Collenette was supposed to decide whether to allow a controversial plutonium shipment from Russia to Chalk River, Ontario (via the St. Lawrence seaway) by November 1. But for whatever reason (probably because he's been trying to manage the airline crisis), he didn't bother making a decision. That means the shipment won't happen until next year at the earliest--giving the plan's anti-nuclear opponents time to ramp up their efforts. Get cracking!

Insect >> MUC user fees First they hike the cost of taking the bus effective January 1, 2000. Now they're planning to charge user fees for everything from after-school child supervision services to parks. Yes, parks. (Thankfully, the fees will apply only to parks managed by the MUC, which means Mount Royal is still free.) Who do these people think they are, charging citizens for a walk in the woods? Liberate our parks!
