Think "later on"
by SCOTT C
Following a crazy sold-out performance at Spectrum last week, the boys from Sans Pression lend their lyrical talents to yet another cause. All you South Shore herbs who've been scrounging in dumpsters trying to keep up with the latest fly gear can now breathe a sigh of relief. Vetements Off Da Hook opens its doors on November 6 offering only the best in urban wear. To celebrate their grand opening, Sans Pression, DJ Blast and A-Trak will be gracing the premises with nothing but skills. Vinyl junkies take note because there will also be a Tabou DJ outlet located inside the store to service all your needs. Now everybody's gonna be freshly dipped like Ricky D and Perry.
I never had a birthday party like this one: Montreal man-about-town and superstar DJ JoJo Flores will be celebrating his debut with some very close friends, very soon. Cameos by DJs Krista, Joubin, Zo, Rocket Rechad, Mr. "O", Gary Deep (aka Troubleman), Alex T and the luscious Vivienne Nicholson will ensure that things jump off with style. You can check that out at Jai on Thursday, November 11--where you know it's gonna be rammed Therapy style.
So, Limp Bizkit, Redman and Methodman, eh? In a blatant effort to cash-in on the blurry lines between hip hop and hard stuff, we find our heroes (Red and Meth) riding piggy-back on an insanely popular pop music annoyance (Bizkit), that'll no doubt pack them in. If you don't have your ticket for the November 16 show at the Molson Centre, then you're probably trying to decide how much you hate Limp Bizkit and whether or not you could sit through their set. Get 'em while they're hot.
Roots off-shoot Rahzhel returns to the French connection November 20 for a show at Sona that was supposed to be shared with Toronto hot boy Choclair, but not so. If you were a little disappointed by the Chizknocker's non-performance at his record launch last week, then you'll be happy to know that he'll be back for a real live show sometime in the month of December.
To be filed in the "later on" section... December 1 marks DJ Vadim's return to Montreal, for an extravaganza at Cabaret. The contents of his latest album lean heavy on the indie-talent side, and Montreal skills have not been forgotten. Look for a memorable live show. Also riding the heels of an impressive debut come the mumblings of a Mos Def show that I'd much prefer to attend than talk about. The sooner the Mighty Mos gets here the better, but right now there's nothing but a rumour.
Another UFO to watch for is Detroit's Slum Village, who may be touching down sooner than you think. These guys produced the last two Tribe Called Quest albums and have their own album coming out in February, so stay tuned!
