Electric avenue

by KEITH MARCHAND

Art's undeniable association with the digital domain will be explored and celebrated over the next two weekends at Usine C. Elektra is a new series of electro, techno and multimedia performances that aims to demonstrate the emergence of electronic arts, as well as the connection between lofty electroacoustic composition, multimedia performance and urban electronic music.

Highlights include a performance by Hungarian-born multidisciplinary artist/professional pain-in-the-ass Monty Kantsin. Tonight, Thursday, Nov. 4, Kantsin (aka Istvan Kantor) will perform his sound production piece entitled Executive Machinery. This will include a collection of amplified filing cabinets, some percussively-programmed robots and five video screens.

The Austrian wunder-duo, Granular Synthesis are booked for a two-night assault on the senses (Nov. 12-13). They'll bring their epic aural landscapes and visceral video projections to new heights of power with a massive sound system and the singularly wrenching vocal stylings of Diamanda Galas. 1345 Lalonde, $10-15; for info call 521-4493.
