angel Angel >> MPs who cross the floor and join other parties What do you get when you elect five different parties into the House of Commons? Utter confusion. If citizens find it hard to tell the difference between them, well, so do the politicians themselves. Six weeks ago, Tory MP Bill Matthews suddenly became a Liberal; this week, NDP MP Angela Vautour morphed into a Tory. In a way it's a disturbing trend, more proof that politics is meaningless. But it's fun to watch the switcheroo MPs try to explain how they woke up one morning to discover they don't believe a word they've been saying for the last three years.

Insect >> SQ cops who hold union demonstrations while carrying their firearms Did anyone need more proof that the provincial police are a rogue force that does whatever it wants? Last weekend they demonstrated outside a PQ council meeting in Drummondville to call for a bigger pay increase; in full uniform, wearing their firearms, they physically bumped and jostled cabinet ministers. Local Drummondville police who were on hand say the tension was palpable, and things could have gotten really bad. Worst of all, apparently there's nothing in the law which says what they did was illegal--which means they're going to get away with their blatant intimidations.
