Guerrero's 31-game hitting streak, which ended Friday night, was the longest since Benito Santiago's 34-game streak in 1987. Despite playing in the lousiest stadium in North America and in front of puny crowds (8,257 saw the streak end), Guerrero consistently plays with class, determination and fire.

insect Insect >> Beggar-banning St-Joseph's Oratory priests The popular landmark, tourist attraction and place of worship is a little meagre in the way of Christian charity these days. Beggars aren't welcome at the Oratory because, said a church official, there are enough homeless shelters in the area to help them. Perhaps more importantly however, worshippers (and well-moneyed tourists) don't want to be bothered with the all-too-earthly problems of poverty and mental illness. Father Achille Chevalier summed up the Oratory's new neo-liberal-flavoured policy: "Jesus never said to give money. He...gave [people] the courage to work a little harder."
