angel Angel >> Bulls who screw the authorities and make a break for it Just how smart can animals be? Late Sunday night, one of the bulls destined for Saturday's Feria at the Big O broke out of the holding pen at the border crossing and went AWOL for two days. Maybe he knew he was destined for a horrible fate of goading and taunting by humans in bright clothing while strapped into an uncomfortable velcro jacket. Maybe he was actually doubling as a dope mule, and figured the jig was up with customs authorities. Whatever the case, he simply rammed the doors and wandered out into the night. That's the best thing about bulls: they defy all authority.

insect Insect >> French architect Roger Taillibert, designer of white elephants Taillibert, the architect of the crumbling, decrepit, billion-dollar modern ruin known as Olympic Stadium, flew in from Paris for Jean Drapeau's funeral. Taillibert has always blamed the Big O's problems on the engineers, but he also designed a stadium in France (a Big O prototype, in fact) whose roof also caved in. And yet, outside Drapeau's funeral, this builder of concrete monstrosities was surrounded by scores of autograph-seekers. As opposed to, say, being pelted with tomatoes and run out of town.
