Angel >> Nurses who break the law and go on strike The nurses' strike has created numerous nuisances: the cancellation of thousands of elective surgery procedures, picket lines and much chanting and sloganeering. It's made a crumbling health-care system seem even worse. But if we don't pay our nurses properly and provide for adequate staffing levels, they'll all leave the province anyway to find better jobs elsewhere--and then the system will really be up the creek. Eventually, someone has to force the government to inject some desperately needed cash into the health system; we should thank our nurses for leading the battle.
Insect >> The abominable Reverend Phelps Ghoulish picketer of gay funerals, fan of the Old Testament at its gory, anti-gay best, Rev. Fred Phelps said he would come to Canada with a handful of accolytes on Monday to burn our flag. Thankfully, he failed to show. He hates us because our Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex partners may be called "spouses." If that got him so mad, what, we wonder, did he think of the 750,000 Canadians cheering on the participants in Toronto's Pride parade the day before?
