A tale of three nations
by KRISTA Happy Festival du St-Jean-Baptiste. Hopefully there won't be any bombing, looting or other Neanderthal antics. Tonight, Wednesday, June 23, les Productions 514 are building a House Nation with DJs Danny Tenaglia and Dimitri From Paris, and superstar locals Luc Raymond and Laflèche. Please note that the party has been moved to Sona. Note also that this means the Session will not be taking place tonight. No, Derrick Carter is not playing at Stereo tonight, but Mark Anthony will be. And there is no party called Warehouse Nation taking place. Although it was an ingenious concept, boys... If "attend mega-party" is not on your to-do list, then you can join residents Mateo and myself for Progress at Tokyo, where our very special guest is DJ XL. $5 at the door. Also tonight, it appears that Alain Vinet will magically be in two places at once. He is scheduled to play his regular Wednesday night gig Aruanda at China club, and he is also billed for the main room at Unity, along with DJ Bobzilla, who heads the Soirée Francophone. Thursday, June 24, aside from cleaning up and/or recovering from the previous night's silliness, you can head to Jai bar (for a change) and check out Therapy with Jojo Flores, whose guest will be Alain Vinet (DJ of the week, apparently). Or, you can head to the pleasantly sedate Laika and check out DJ Maüs. No cover. On Saturday, June 26, you'll want to plan for an all-nighter. Detroit's turntable maven Stacey Pullen is at Jingxi for an impromptu Industry Headliners event, not to be missed. $10 at the door. And, being the last Saturday of June, David Morales, shirtless womanizer that he is, returns to Stereo.
The skinny on next week is, Blizzarts has a new night: Mystic Mondays with resident DJ Mike S. Guest on June 28 is Peter Swail, no cover. Starting Tuesday, June 29, Luba Lounge hosts Exotic Soul Garden with resident DJ Nav and guest DJ Boogie.
Happy Canada Day. On June 30, nationalists should head to Ottawa. The rest of us will enjoy another day off here. The special guest at the yearly bash in the nation's capitol is Richie Hawtin. Back here in Montreal, the Billion Dollar Boys are celebrating one year of One Night in Bangcok at Unity, featuring ex-model turned starlet, DJ Alex Lauterstein, aka the Vinyl Pimp. For info call 523-4429. That same night, the Bombay Boys Nav and Patrick Dream celebrate their Canadian pride at Tokyo's Progress night. $5 at the door.
Putting yet another rumour to rest, Montreal institution DiSalvio's is not shutting down. The club will probably close at some point while it gets a facelift, but other than that things are all good. In fact, one of the owners has recently purchased a space on Toronto's elite club strip near Adelaide and Peter streets and plans to open a variation on the Disalvio's theme over there. Marvelous. |
