Insect >> French on the links The Office de la langue française wants francophones to use French on the golf course (English people can use whatever language they want on the fairway, thank God). Instead of birdie, say oiselet; instead of pitching wedge, cocheur; instead of divot, motte; and so on. The problem: golf has its roots deep in the U.K., and every country in the world (including France) uses the English terminology. Apparently, some francophone golfers complain that the French words don't look, feel or sound right. But if the OLF has their way, people will stop saying putt and start saying coup roulé--and a game of golf will sound just like a game of Mille Bornes.
