Montreal: Best chance to get AIDS

Over the past five years, AIDS stats have clearly indicated that women are one of the fastest-growing risk groups for HIV seroconversion. And out of those numbers, for some mysterious reason, Montreal emerges as a capital.

"The most recent statistics show that 52 per cent of all Canadian women infected in the last year live in Montreal," says Carolyn Cutler, volunteer services coordinator for the Centre for AIDS Services of Montreal (Women), a group which focuses on improved care for women (and their children) who are struggling with HIV. "The needs of women with this disease are gaining rapidly."

As part of the group's ongoing game plan, they're hosting a fundraising cocktail this Saturday, June 5 at 5 p.m. at Le Drugstore (1364 Ste-Catherine E.) A raffle will be held, and portions of the bar take--and all tips for the event--will be donated to CASM.
