Ram, Cam, thank you ma'am

MEG, FYI, stands for Montreal Electronic Groove, a three-night compact festival exploring the weird and wonderful directions that electronic music has taken lately, both here and in France (where a comparable event starts on June 10). A general pass for all three nights, June 3 to 5, is $30. Here's clip 'n' save schedule for all y'all:

Thursday, 9pm, Cabaret, $12: The afore-mentioned Ekova kick things off with grace and élan, followed at 11:15 p.m. by the funky stylings of Future Shock, featuring Frank Cisco of Skyjuice. Following them at half-past 12 are Les Jardiniers, sowing the seeds of a minimalist house/disco kitsch hybrid. Members Sylvain Houde and Martin Dumais carry the vibe after-wards, until everybody gets kicked out at 3am.

Friday, 10pm, Jingxi, $5: Things move over to St-Denis and Rachel for an appearance by DJ Gilb'r, a nice boy from Nice on the Côte d'Azur. Bookending his big ol' jungle grooves are DJs Krista and Soul Sista (a bit of poetry on the organizers' part).

Saturday, 9pm, Cabaret, $25: The blowout. The entrée is a set by Thali, which is the always-amazing DJ Ram jamming with frame-drummer Ganesh Anandan and others. Ekova return at 10, followed at 11:30 by Rinocérose from Montpellier (France, not Vermont). Dig their crazy guitar-based dub-house art thing. As of 1am, it's just madness as Ram reclaims the decks, to be followed by DJ Cam, the man who took French hip hop off the street and into the salons (whatever a salon is, anyway). Gilb'r pops up again, followed by local d&b bosses Double A & Twist. Kiff closes the night, or rather morning: by the time he's done it'll be 8 a.m. and high time you bums went home.
