That's Victoria for ya

by KRISTA

Note to self: no drinking Becks and Scotch at 7 a.m. after an extensive workout on the dancefloor. Alcohol does not re-hydrate quite as effectively as water.

Right now the details of the Victoria Day weekend happenings are but a foggy haze of images in my head, but I'm sure that as I write it'll all come back to me. I have this vague recollection of me strutting about pulling Solid Gold moves and tossing my skirt, but maybe that was just a dream. Whatever. Either way, I had fun...

From Little Louie to Swirl 5 to the Bad Boy Club, this past weekend was pretty off the hook on all party fronts. This year's Wild & Wet and Hot & Dry events were a raving (no pun intended) succés fou. NYC's DJ Razor rocked the main room at CEPSUM on Saturday night, and Peter Rauhoffer, the genius behind all those "Club 69" remixes on Twisted records, worked his usual magic on Sunday night.

Swirl 5 was, of course, larger than life. Some seven to nine thousand packed into the back end of the Olympic Stadium for the mega-rave where Misstress Barbara, Doc Martin and Cash Money were the highlights of the evening. Other than that, Sasha didn't play until most people were too tired to notice and Cassius were about as impressive live as Daft Punk.

Stereo was like a love-in and a fashion show all at once for Little Louie Vega's debut. DJs Nav and Alain Vinet got the floor going and at 4 a.m. the place was packed full of guys with big smiles and girls in fancy dresses and trainers (function vs fashion). The Nu Yorican master played it a little more soulful than I expected, but he still kept me grooving for a good three and a half hours...

This Friday, May 28, the little man with the big attitude, techno-God Jeff Mills, pays a visit to Stereo. I hope the turntables in the booth aren't too high for him. Mind you, the maven seems to be able to work his magic just about anywhere and I'm sure Stereo will be no exception. With Nav, Patrick Dream and XL. Tickets $30 in advance.

Also this Friday, DJ Mateo gets to take his shot at Sona's main room, as 514 still have not settled on a new Friday resident.

May 29 is the last Saturday in May, and that means Stereo once again plays host to NYC's David Morales, who, by the way, really likes to take his shirt off in public.

And now for next week...

Tokyo's Progress Wednesdays will be welcoming DJ Tiga and another surprise guest on June 2. $5 at the door.

Friday, June 4, Turbo Recordings celebrate the release of their fourth CD, The Stockholm Mix Sessions featuring Jesper Dahlback, at Sona. Dahlback will play in the Bar, and Scotland's Slam will perform live in the main room.

And on Sunday, June 6, Tokyo welcomes minimal techno-wiz and former member of LFO Gez Varley (aka G-man), along with G O'Brian, versus Pheek and Mateo. $10 at the door. :
