A mountain of crap Last week, four black and white photos made their way across the Mirror's desks of a Monday morning on Fletchers Field, the Tam Tam site, where thousands of free-spirited revelers had hung out the previous day, listening to a fierce tribal beat. The photos showed overflowing garbage cans, and hundreds of plastic bags, cans, cigarette butts and other garbage. Also pictured were some grim city workers beginning the chore of picking it up. "I went to the mountain to play guitar," said Adam Gottlieb, who took the pictures. "I couldn't even play I was so mad." This Sunday, the Centre de la montagne is holding its 10th annual clean up of Tam Tam crap and other garbage on Mount Royal. Those interested can register Sunday from 8:30 am. to 9:30 a.m. at the Chalet on top of the mountain. The activities include planting trees, spreading wood chips and picking up garbage. With a little luck, maybe the fields will stay clean for more than a week. --Jacquie Charlton |
