angel Angel >> Anglo repertory cinema, reborn in Montreal It's been a tough few weeks for Montreal film aficionados. Back and forth to La Boîte Noire, rifling through their selection of repertory classics, having to make do with microwave popcorn, the itsy-bitsy screen of your television set and the strangely unwelcome comfort of your own couch. It's a drag because "going to the movies" is supposed to get us out of the house. The Cinéma du Parc reopens its doors this Friday, May 14, under new management. Movie passes issued under previous management will be honoured for a limited time. Let's hope rep cinema is here to stay.

insect Insect >> Quebec citizen relations minister Robert Perreault The Kosovar refugees have begun arriving in Canada, and Quebec is getting ready to welcome up to 1,200 of them. The province has even set up a 1-800 number for families willing to help out. But apparently not all Quebecers are welcome to call: at a Monday press conference, Perreault insisted that French would be a priority. While Perreault invited all Quebecers to participate, he added, "I hope there is no family in Quebec who doesn't know French." How crass. People's generosity should never be subject to any kind of language test.
