Bell strikers bend rules
Two weeks after they walked off the job, striking Bell Canada employees showed up at the picket line on Monday morning and were greeted with a surprise: a court injunction prohibiting them from demonstrating, picketing or obstructing the entrances to the building. The injunction also prohibited them from intimidating or troubling employees who enter and leave the building, located at University and de la Gauchetière. How do you respond when you have been prohibited from doing anything? The answer is obvious: act incredulous. The photo shows Bell strikers hanging around while in fact blocking a Bell repair van--complete with two replacement workers on the inside--from exiting off de la Gauchetière. The strikers purposefully refused to look at the van in order to avoid any charges of intimidation or of wilful obstruction. After a delay of several minutes, the van was set free by its unassuming captors. According to one striking employee, the van "simply showed up at the wrong place at the wrong time." --Philip Preville |
