MINDs on the move MIND is movin' up. Uptown, that is. The "alternative" school for grades 9 to 11 is moving from its downtown campus to the top floor of Bancroft elementary school on the corner of St-Urbain and Mont Royal. After months of not knowing where they would be relocated, MIND has finally been given its new address and will be moving over the summer. An added bonus: the new digs are bigger. But in addition to expanding its student body of 130, MIND head teacher Sharon Erskine hinted at a growth in student resources: an audio-visual department, a new library or perhaps a computer room. Most importantly, however, the new location means that MIND will remain accessible to students. Unlike most schools, MIND boasts a student body that comes from all over the island, attending Quebec's only English school administered jointly by teachers, students and parents. "The uncertainty made people hesitant to commit to us," explained Erskine. "But now everyone's quite gung ho." --Dominique Ritter
MIND will be holding a registration meeting on May 4 at 7 p.m. at 3449 University. Info: 842-0792 |
