Angel >> The Farha Foundation We've said it before, and we'll say it again: this local AIDS charity deserves support. They will hold their brilliant dine-and-donate fundraiser on Wednesday, April 28. Over 100 Montreal and Quebec City restos take part; diners know that 25% of the night's earnings will be donated to the Farha Foundation, which provides vital services for those living with HIV infection (last year's tally: over $81,000). A complete list of participating restos can be found at www.total.net/~farha or by calling 270-5010.
Insect >> Erreur boréale, urban-style There seems to be no explanation for the felling of 22 large trees by a construction company at the site of the Dominican Monastery on the corner of Décarie and Notre-Dame-de-Grace. When the clear-cutting (which was done without the appropriate permit) caused a public outcry, Gescor Construction, the company building condos and an underground parking lot on the spot, first claimed the trees had been sick, then said their ice storm damage had posed a public danger--even though the Dominicans spent $10,000 repairing them last year.
