Front 242 Headhunter 2000 (Metropolis/Outside)

It's the track you've been dancing to in industrial-compliant clubs for about nine(!) years. And when you walk into a music store, your first reaction to the double CD(!!) of remixes will probably be as negatively charged as the song you know too well. But surprisingly, hearing the same song in over 18(!!!) different incarnations is not as excruciating as you think. The best on the post-apocalyptic, war-torn battlefield, including Frontline Assembly and Laether Strip, do the Front justice. 8/10 (Lateef Martin)

DJ Silver Don't Panic (Liquid Sky)

Do panic... over the fact that this guy did a techno remake of the Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams," featuring the voice of Julee Cruise (Twin Peaks soundtrack). DJ Silver's first release on the NYC-based Liquid Sky imprint sounds like it got lost in time around 1987. Think Depeche Mode on opium crossed with Yaz on acid. Although mildly entertaining, "Don't Panic" is anything but original. 5/10 (Krista)

D Generation Through the Darkness (Columbia/Sony)

New York's D Generation musta been ticked that they never made it onto last year's Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, because their second major-label album shows that they've been putting a new sheen on their old-school, Downtown punk with a little bit o' glam. They even hired ol' Bowie producer Tony Visconti to tighten up their already-cinched punk-pop, but it's not a complete makeover: they leave in the guitar solos for anyone who yearns for Television, Never Mind the Bollocks or Poison... 7.5/10 (Chris Yurkiw)

Alain Trudel Jericho's Legacy (Naxos Jazz)

Trudel, originally a jazz musician, has evolved into one of the world's five top trombone soloists in the classical field. Here, with his regular jazz quartet of John Stetch, Eric Lagace and Jim Hillman, he returns to his first love and proves himself a first-rate creator in that field. Five Trudel originals are heard here along with some "rhythm" changes and three Monk interpretations, including a mindboggling "'Round Midnight." 9.5/10 (Len Dobbin)
