Haring auction ends this week

Museum-goers lined up for hours this past weekend, during the final days of the Keith Haring exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. Unfortunately, the museum boutique was sold out of posters, so Haring aficionados were unable to bring home anything by the man himself.

But there's still one chance left to own a work of art with Haring's personal signature.

Before Christmas, the Mirror reported on a charity auction of four photos of Keith Haring, taken by Montreal photographer Martin Roy and signed by the renowned graffiti artist/gay activist while on his deathbed ("Haring on the auction block," Dec. 17).

Since then, auction organizers have received numerous inquiries about the photos, but no official bids. Organizers have suggested a minimum bid of $200. The four highest bids will walk home with the poster-sized signed portraits.

Final bids will be taken in person only this Friday, January 15, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Bar Bily Kun (354 Mont-Royal E.), where one of the photos is on display. All proceeds go to ABBAPAS, a volunteer organization that provides support for people living with AIDS. Info: 521-3345.
