The Front

The hidden scenes of wintertime in the city: a snow-removal truck dumps its load off a pier in the Port of Montreal and into the St-Lawrence river. It's not as harmless as it seems: the snow loads include car emissions (the stuff that turns the snow brown), rock salt and the contents of many curbside garbage bags, mulched up and spat out regularly by snow-removal machinery. The city plans to stop river dumping after this year.
