Election gaffe of the week

The Green Party's scorched-earth policy

The Green Party of Québec (PVQ) announced its own death with great fanfare last week, informing the media that it would not present any candidates in the upcoming provincial election. "Death to the Green Party of Quebec!" reads their press release.

Huh? Well, in the PVQ's own words, they've thrown the entire concept of parliamentary democracy into the recycling bin: "To vote for someone, that is, to deliberately give someone the power to decide and to speak in our place for four years, is an act contrary to the democratic principle of 'power to the people.'"

"Down with this democracy by and for the rich!" sayeth the communiqué. "Death to the Green Party of Quebec and to all other parties! Long live anarchy and social revolution!"

The fogeys over at the Establishment (or is that the Trilateral Commission?) are no doubt shaking in their boots.
