Roussopoulos ridiculed by prank posters Anarchists don't take well to authority figures. So it's no surprise, then, that Montreal's most prominent anarchist suddenly finds himself the butt of one of the funnier pranks to grace Montreal lampposts in recent memory-courtesy of some former employees. Dimitri Roussopoulos, owner of the anarchist publishing house Black Rose Books and rumoured to have, shall we say, a healthy ego, suddenly found his goateed mug on photocopied posters plastered throughout the Plateau, touting him as a candidate for leader of the MCM and for mayor (he is neither). According to the posters, Roussopoulos' campaign is financed by Black Rose Crooks as well as CCMP (Charlatans and Cadavers of Milton-Parc) and SODECM (a French anagram which essentially means the Dimitri Society for Pissing Off Militants). Damage control has been called in to quell the misinformation mayhem. Roussopoulos supporters have blotted out the writing on the posters with black spray paint, but Roussopoulos' Mona-Lisa-esque mug remains to perplex passersby. "This is obviously a hoax," Roussopoulos told the Mirror, quite soberly stating the obvious. "It's meant to confuse the electors." Both Roussopoulos and other sources have said the joke was perpetrated by former Black Rose employees, though all refused to name names. Roussopoulos' wife, Lucia Kowaluk, who is MCM leader Michel Prescott's co-candidate in the Jeanne-Mance district, has a less severe attitude about the incident. "At first it was yucky," said Kowaluk of the prank. "But when you look at the signs again, they are quite funny." -Dominique Ritter and Philip Preville
