Angel >> Michel Prescott, mayoral candidate for the Montreal Citizens Movement The MCM has been a political institution for progressively minded Montrealers for almost 25 years. Exactly one year ago, two vultures named Jean Doré and Jacques Duchesneau started tearing it apart: they formed bogus parties and orchestrated all kinds of high-profile defections, leaving Prescott in charge of an MCM carcass. Ignored by the media, registering less than five per cent support in the polls, the party penniless, Prescott seemed the most likely candidate to quit the race. Now the tables have turned: thanks to an impressive campaign, Prescott has more than doubled his support and the MCM is alive once more. Prescott won't become mayor, but it looks as though he will garner enough support to keep both Doré and Duchesneau out of the mayor's chair.

Insect >> The new, national, delivered-right-to-your-doorstep daily newsletter from the Reform Party of Canada, also known as the National Post The latest creation from megalomaniac media mogul Conrad Black is bursting with Reform propagandists, from Diane Francis to Andrew Coyne to David Frum. (All three in one paper! The laughter! The tears!) The inaugural issue's big story: in "exclusive" interviews, Reform leader Preston Manning and Alberta Premier Ralph Klein sang the praises of a Tory-Reform merger. Ho hum.
