Angel >> Deceased revolutionary Che Guevara Tomorrow (Friday, October 9) marks the 31st anniversary of Guevara's assassination. It's amazing what 31 years can do: Guevara is revered not only by political radicals, but also by savvy marketing execs. Guevara's mug now adorns keychains, coffee mugs, pens and all other trinkets and knick-knacks normally reserved for corporate logos. Lest we forget the man's true legacy, a bevvy of activist and community groups are banding together to hold a commemoration. Che Day will be held on Friday, Oct. 9 in the basement of the Conseil des syndicats nationaux offices, located at 1601 de Lorimier (Metro Papineau). Info: 737-4682.

Insect >> Junk voice mail Be it a metro car, an Internet search engine or a park bench, conniving marketing wizards seem able to convert just about anything into an ad medium. Now, even your voice mail isn't safe. Case in point: "Hello, this is Robert Maxim calling. You don't know me, if you're trying to place my voice..." Robert goes on to explain that he's looking for potential employees in search of "lifestyle," who will help him expand his "not Amway, water filters or pyramid scheme" $1.8 billion business in Montreal. Press "7" if you want to erase this message and "666" if you would like Robert and his ilk sent directly to telemarketing hell.
