Cops walk while Green Onions fry?

The Green Onions did not act alone in the VIP parking scam, but a recent decision by city hall could mean that they get singled out while their partners in crime--the police--avoid immediate sanctions.

Last Monday, city council voted down a motion that would have required a combined investigation of the Green Onions and MUC police, to determine the cops' involvement in the scam before deciding the fate of the parking attendants accused of turning a blind eye to infractions by select friends, family and bigwigs.

"Why have fast-track exploitative sanctions for one group and slow paced sanctions for another?" asked MCM mayoral hopeful Michel Prescott, who introduced the motion.

Answering his own question, Prescott explained that Mayor Pierre Bourque wants to resolve the issue quickly to help boost his image among voters before the upcoming the November 1 election. The city's executive committee is set to decide the fate of 84 suspended Green Onions in the coming days. Prescott, however, fears that a speedy resolution will be at the Onions' expense because the scam will not be fully understood before a full investigation is complete.
