Cambior President Louis Gignac leaves Quebec Superior Court last Tuesday after testifying in proceedings involving his company. Recherches Internationales Québec (RIQ), a public advocacy group claiming to represent 23,000 Guyanese residents, is attempting to launch a $69-million class-action suit against Cambior for a 1995 cyanide spill at a Cambior-owned mine in Guyana. Cambior is arguing that the case should be heard in Guyanese court; RIQ claims that since Cambior is headquartered in Quebec, the case should be heard here. Photo by Martin Savoie >>>
