Best of Montreal, take 2

by MIREILLE SILCOTT

Two weeks ago the Mirror ran the "Best of Montreal" issue, in which the city voted for Sona as "Best club," and Mark Anthony as "Best DJ." Many clubs who didn't get #1 and many DJs who missed the list have since called wondering how the Best of Montreal is sorted. The Mirror has long given up the original BOM selection process of bottle spinning, tarot cards, astrological signs, booger tossing and limericks, so now the readers just fill out ballots and we count their votes carefully.

But let's face it--80 per cent of Montrealers have never been to Sona and wouldn't know Mark Anthony the DJ from Mark Antony the Roman luster. They just put in names they remember. So here, trendy folks, is your very own Best of Montreal form, with special clubby categories that you can sit and pine over for days on end. Just don't pine past Monday, May 25, because that's when all votes will be counted. Fax this column, filled out, back to the Mirror at 514-393-3173 or e-mail it to me at silcott@babylon.montreal.qc.ca. And remember: the more of you who vote, the more accurate this'll be!

DJ Slyde Let Your Backbone Slyde

The fattest breaks, agile scratching, great mixing and everything from Steinski to Propellerheads. An original breakbeat extravaganza that doesn't quit. So well executed, you'll wonder why you haven't heard more of this kid. Talent! 9/10. Available at DNA. :
