Placards and a bullhorn await the arrival of demonstrators outside the Queen Elizabeth Hotel last Monday evening. Palestinian Montrealers and their supporters protested outside the hotel, while inside, Premier Lucien Bouchard and other notables attended a gala celebrating Israel's 50th anniversary. In a poetic reflection of the silencing many Palestinians feel, organizers could not get either their bullhorn or their sound system to work properly.
