Waterworld

by MIREILLE SILCOTT

In the toon-towny hardcore days, rave promoters were prone to using images like Tide detergent or Carefree gum logos on flyers as decoration. Ha, ha, how the underground still must laugh at the flippant commercial visuals those silly rave kids used. So corporate, and...

Excuse me while I take a swig from this Swirl 4 party/Tommy Jeans promotional bottled water.

...Ah! Refreshing! Anyway, as I was saying, self-proclaimed citizens of El Undergroundo would never support those kinds of connections, no matter how superficially placed. Which means that for credibility's sake, oh shame, they must stop going to all of the following: Club Unity (sponsored by Molson Dry), Pop (Mix 96), the DMC DJ Championships (Technics, Vestax), a BBCM event (Black Label, Naya, Air Canada), Groove Society (Molson Dry), a Ninja Tune Mtl party (MusiquePlus), Sona (don't ask), a Shock event (Fogel Sabourin), or most big live things (major labels, eh?). Which leaves... well, they can stay home and obsolesce. Or knit. Maybe write poetry, always a fine hobby. The rest of us can stock our pantries with free bottled water and do some of this great stuff in the next coupla weeks:

Danny Tenaglia is at Anthem Republica at Juice this Monday. He spins from 10-4. Info: 844-3125, $28 adv. Don't miss! * Victor Calderone, the latest paint-by-numbers NYC house superstar is at Sona's monthly gay event, BangCok, May 28 (info 282-1000) * The BBCM's AIDS fundraising Wild & Wet, featuring Ten City boy Byron Stingily (!), falls on the same night as 514's Hilfigerama Swirl 4, featuring Junior Vasquez, DJ Icey, Joey Beltram and many others (May 17).
