Angel >> Dr. Aleida Guevara March, daughter of the revolutionary Ché lives! Dr. March, Guevara's eldest daughter and a Cuban citizen, arrived in Montreal this week to speak with students at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She urged Canada to help end the U.S.-led economic embargo against Cuba, which is cutting the island nation off from such basic supplies as medicine and milk. And she predicted a "major social explosion" in various parts of South America if issues of poverty and social disparity are not addressed. If not, she said, her father's ideas on armed revolution may experience a real comeback--not just his face on lighters and keychains.

Insect >> Sinking-ship Oscar-winner James Cameron Cameron's display of unbridled hubris and crass piety at the Academy Awards was too much to bear. "I'm the king of the world!" he exclaimed as he received the best director award. It was a rather impolitic pronouncement, considering that he was essentially yelling his mantra from atop the graves of the Titanic's 1,500 victims. Then, when presented with the best picture award, he tried to make amends by asking the audience for a moment of silence--a move which couldn't have been more melodramatic or less genuine. And why is he suddenly making everyone feel bad about enjoying his film? Look, Cameron: you're the one who owes the greatest debt to the Titanic's dead. So say something thoughtful in their memory, accept your award with a modicum of grace, and get the hell off the stage.
