Cappadonna The Pillage (Sony/Epic) If you've been sitting around waiting for the next chapter in the Wu-Tang saga, listen up. Cappadonna's got the gusto. After blessing us with cameos on the Raekwon, Ghostface and Wu-Tang Forever albums, Cappa's solo attack is bound to impress. Songs like "Milk the Cow," "Supa Ninjaz" and the title track "Pillage" allow Cappa to do his thing while taking the Wu sound to another level. This is the street credible slang editorial of one competent MC. 8/10 (Scott C.)
I remember when the Dream Warriors were the only thing in Canadian hip hop that we had to hang on to. This compilation puts the songs you'll remember right alongside the ones you undoubtedly forgot. With team-ups running from Guru and DJ Premier to Dig-able Planets and Beenie Man, there's probably something here you may have missed. This album is a good listen for a smile, but I'm not sure what to do with it now. 7/10 (Scott C.) Mingus Big Band Que Viva Mingus (Dreyfus/Koch) This is a repertory band... but what a repertoire! Works by Charlie Mingus, one of the great composers in jazz history, arranged by people like Sy Johnson, Chico O'Farrill, Steve Slagle and Ronnie Cuber. Included this time around are "Far Wells Mill Valley" and pieces from his Tijuana Moods album--mostly on the Latin side. With soloists like Slagle, Cuber, Seamus Blake and Chris Potter you've got some very exciting music that can't miss. 10/10 (Len Dobbin)
