Seeing red by MIREILLE SILCOTT There's this unwritten rule that "entertainment" columnists should hype all these friggin' holidays, because that's when everyone decides to leave the TV for a night and go out. And I know I always do this grinchy bit around the biggies, but I find the whole idea of mixing greeting cards and afterhours clubs a bit creepy and boring. It's all too predictable. Too yearly. Institutionalized, like. Of course, this isn't a call to drop the Baby Jesus or St. Laura Secord or whoever. But if you're writing about clubs, which is what I'm supposedly doing, there's something frustrating about the same time, same place anniversary/sequel party/holiday annual-ism happening among this city's bigger promoters (please note that the pre-flyer for April's Bal en Blanc 4 is already out, in case finding out that the party was in April again would be too much of a shocker). However, as this is the way of the wonka in this space in time, here's a coupla things you can do this Valentine's Saturday to celebrate the giving of chocolates and the utter non-spontaneity of the world we live in. Enjoy! * The BBCM bring their fifth annual Red party to Playground bar and Storm. Twisted's president and DJ-come-lately Rob di Stefano plays along with the mega-gay lineup of Gilles Junior, Robert Ouimet and Stéphane Grondin. And let's not forget those BBCM dancers, who I'm sure have some red briefs ready for the occasion. $25 adv/$30 door, info: 790-1245. * 514 are advertising their Spanish Fly party with a flyer featuring two girls giving head to one dick. And they have craftily placed the Harcore Crew logo right over the penis, encased in a heart. Which, in straight visual language, implies "the Hardcore Crew love cock." Although I doubt that's what they meant. Laflèche plays the big room with Luc Raymond, Patrick Dream's in the bar, Zadio, Red Dredd and Ray Ray in the lounge. $15 door. * Sky is going all out. Starting off with a dating game in the pub at 8 p.m., then on to the Black Out party in Sky's club, featuring no particular DJ and "GoGo God's Dancers." Wearing red briefs, no doubt. Cover $1. And a $5 rebate for the Red party. News you need! Get ready for the Great DJ Blackout of 1998, between March 7 and 11, as the whole lot of them leave for Miami for this year's Winter Music Conference * DO NOT FORGET to check Leeds label 20:20 Vision's Ralph Lawson at the Bounce party on Feb. 21. Info:367-9825.
* Shock Productions are threatening to bring in a large UK festival, which is planning to travel out of England to do two N. American nights this summer. I'm not allowed to say which, so I'll tell you a joke instead: What did one raver say to another at TRIBAL GATHERING?
