Back-order disorder

>> Obscure Disorder plan more sell-out records in '98

by SCOTT C

Obscure Disorder are something of an exception in Montreal's sea of hip hop artists, most of whom do good live work around town but put out no major product on vinyl. "Their record, Lyrically Exposed, has sold 2000 copies already. We're way in back order," says Gavin McInnes of Four Ways to Rock, the Toronto/Montreal label that put out the album, along with the group's own local Audio Research imprint. The Obscure Disorder collective, made up of MCs Science, Eclipse and Logic, along with producer Dave One and his brother, DMC champion DJ A-Trak, however, just sort of popped on the scene with this record, with no major support via cameos or performances. Real recording artists, you might say.

"We're hoping to make the next 12-inch a three-song release," says producer Dave One, also mentioning the possibility of an Audio Research compilation later in the year. No doubt that will be before DJ A-Trak, who is working on his own solo project, travels to Paris in October to defend his DMC title.
