Polara C'est la vie (Interscope/Universal)

Weird band. One minute, Minneapolis's Polara are introducing their album in good Amerindie fashion by quoting My Bloody Valentine and maybe St. Johnny; the next, they sound like a baggy Brit band and then they go and write a sing-along pop ditty called "Quebecois" (sic)--apparently just because they liked the sound of the word. I wonder how they like the sound of this: "On va vous enculer avec nos osties de saumons!" 7/10 (Chris Yurkiw) With the Dandy Warhols at Foufounes this Friday, Aug. 15

The Delta 72 The Soul of a New Machine (Touch and Go)

Featuring a former Nation of Ulysses frontman, Farfisa, Mule's last drummer and a Philly-born bassist torn from the Goats, the Delta 72 get down with the mother of all shakes, rattles and rolls. Throwing punk punches into their soul-powered rhythm & blues, D.C.'s Delta 72 are out to make you dance, dammit, as they whip out high voltage hip-swingers sucked straight through the Stax box set ("Scratch," "It's Alright"). 9/10 (Lorrie Edmonds)

Various Megasoft Office (F Communications/Fusion III)

This is one of the most interesting CDs I've received recently. Environmental music is nothing new (Muzak, Eno's airports), but F Comm have put a decidedly now spin to it: Megasoft Office contains gorgeous downtempo from Aquabassino, Juantrip and Nova Nova, made expressly to "create a relaxing environment in your office." The result from the rockheads at the Mirror? "Made me want to screw," "Sounds like John Tesh," "Still want to kill my co-workers," "Got a joint?" Oh well, might work a treat for sex, anyway. 7/10 (Mireille Silcott)

Discs - Sanseiru Sanseiru Hannah-Maria Teresa(Bubblegun)

Debut from this London, Ontario band who've copped their angles from the Washington, D.C. and San Diego schools of cool while still managing to add their own edge to the situation. "Twisted" takes a Rocket-on-a-tangent potshot to the head, while "Tales From the Sonic Maximizer" puts a poppy spin on murky post-punk meanderings. All good, but nothing new to celebrate. 6/10 (Lorrie Edmonds) more discs...
