Glueleg Clodhopper (Liquid/EMI)

This kind of neo-funky prog rock parading as "alternative" would have pissed me off a couple of years ago--probably around the time of Glueleg's first album, if I could remember it. Today, I'd be just as content to have them keep opening for I Mother Earth and wilt amid alt's flatlined sales. I can only think that their name--horse imagery in tow--is all too prophetic. 4/10 (Chris Yurkiw) At Foufounes tonight, Thursday, April 24

Levert The Whole Scenario (WEA/Warner)

For 10 years the Levert trio have successfully conjured up soul/pop nuggets like "Casanova" and "(Pop) Goes My Mind." Their latest offering attempts to continue the tradition, but falls short with lacklustre slow jams and unremarkable funk. Except for the current "Tru Dat," the set lacks the distinctive hooks that have given Levert longevity, this despite their attempts to make this disc sound phat via guest rappers and thick beats. 6.5/10 (Gerard Dee)

Man... Or Astro-Man? 1000X (Touch and Go)

Georgia's MOAM? have never been ones to reveal identities nor the exact nature of their mission on Earth, but it's safe to say that their 1000X EP throws a menacing curve into the race toward Supreme Galactic Rulers of extraterrestrial surf and twang. Polished but still subversive, CoCo and Co. nuke each and every crown challenger with this nefarious, NASA-approved mix. 8/10 (Lorrie Edmonds)

Various The Future Sound of Jazz Vol. 3 (Compost)

Jazz purists might not think this is the future of their beat, but even they could not deny Compost's goodwill through the jazz influence on this collection. Slapping downtempo experiments (check Fauna Flash's genre-bender "Carsual Swing") to a certain classicism, this esteemed series has received enough props to have artists like Mike Paradinas and Taran offer previously unreleased tunes: a pat-on-the-back testament to electronic music's new major disseminator--the compilation. 8/10 (Mireille Silcott) more discs...
