RG court

The ongoing conflict between RG magazine and the Centre communautaire des gais et lesbiennes de Montréal (CCGLM) is now headed into court. RG magazine, its publisher Alain Bouchard and journalist Roger-Luc Chayer have filed suit in Quebec superior court against Roger Le Clerc, president of the CCLGM, for damages totalling $660,000.

According to a copy of the plaintiffs' submission to the court obtained by the Mirror, Le Clerc is being charged with having organized a defamation campaign against RG, Bouchard and Chayer. The submission notes, in particular, Le Clerc's complaint to the Quebec Press Council regarding RG ["The RG-files," March 20]. The plaintiffs claim Le Clerc sent copies of his complaint to many of RG's current and potential advertisers before even sending it to the Press Council.

Two weeks ago, the Press Council decided, upon review, not to pursue Le Clerc's complaint against RG. Philip Preville
