Fridges on tour

For those seeking to do their part for ozone preservation, good news has arrived from the R&D laboratories at Greenpeace Québec: Greenpeace has invented a "green fridge" and is looking for a North American manufacturer.

Greenpeace holds the patent for the environmentally friendly appliance, which was developed in 1992 and has been available in most European countries since 1994. The green fridge uses no CFCs and no HCFCs, both of which contribute to ozone depletion.

And Greenpeace Québec's Johanne Fillion says they're willing to give the patent away. "We don't want to make any money off this," she says. "Any manufacturer can have it so long as they agree to conditions of environmental safety and energy efficiency."

Greenpeace Québec is taking two European green fridges on tour to promote ozone friendliness. The fridge will be on display in Montreal this Thursday and Friday, April 10-11, at the metro level of UQAM's Pavillion Hubert-Aquin between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
