Charest gets gun happyThe gun lobby has more influence than you might think. Not only does the Reform Party support a repeal of Bill C-68, Canada's gun control legislation, but Jean Charest's Progressive Conservatives have made it part of their campaign platform. "We knew we would have to work to ensure this law was fully implemented, but this is outrageous," said Suzanne Laplante-Edward of the Fondation des victimes du 6 décembre contre la violence at a press conference last Wednesday.
Mark Hogben, whose father was killed by Valeri Fabrikant in the Concordia shootings, says Charest is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. "The hypocrisy of saying, 'We support a bill on victims' rights' and then saying, 'Repeal the gun control legislation' is incomprehensible."
